Rebecca Sand

Dr. Rebecca Sand is a naturopathic physician, acupuncturist, and educator specializing in integrative gastroenterology, fertility, and women’s health. Her clinical focus centers on the interconnected systems of the microbiome, hormones, and the gut–brain axis, with particular expertise in complex digestive disorders and reproductive health concerns.

Dr. Sand completed a doctorate and master’s degree in naturopathic medicine and acupuncture at Bastyr University, followed by a postgraduate residency in integrative gastroenterology, fertility, and women’s health at the National University of Natural Medicine and Kwan Yin Healing Arts Center. Her training integrates modern biomedical science with traditional healing systems, allowing her to develop personalized treatment plans that address the root causes of illness rather than simply managing symptoms.

Before pursuing clinical medicine, Dr. Sand spent seven years working in international biomedical and genetics research, including projects related to HIV therapies, regenerative biology, and vaccine development in laboratories in the United States and China. This background informs her evidence-informed and systems-based approach to chronic disease. She combines insights from modern research with therapeutic traditions she studied globally, including work with traditional healers in Tibet, China, India, and Polynesia.

In clinical practice, Dr. Sand frequently works with patients experiencing complex digestive and hormonal conditions such as IBS, SIBO, inflammatory bowel disease, PCOS, endometriosis, thyroid disorders, and fertility. Her treatment approach may incorporate naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, nutrition, herbal therapies, and specialized hands-on techniques including visceral manipulation, craniosacral therapy, and Maya abdominal therapy to build a multifaceted approach to healing.

Dr. Sand is also an active educator and advocate within the field of integrative medicine. She serves on the board of the Gastroenterology Association of Naturopathic Physicians, teaches functional medicine courses, and co-hosts the integrative gastroenterology podcast The Turd Nerds.

Her passion for this work is deeply personal. After experiencing years of undiagnosed PCOS and digestive issues herself, Dr. Sand developed a strong commitment to improving the healthcare experience for patients who feel overlooked or unheard. She is known for taking the time to listen carefully, helping patients understand their health, and guiding them through thoughtful, individualized care.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Sand enjoys gardening, traveling, solving crosswords, and spending time with her partner, 2 kiddos, and any dog willing to accept a few extra pets.
